On My Mind: Historical Fantasy

Hello, Fantastical Creatures.

First of all, sorry this post is up late.

Today, I am thinking about historical fantasy.

Have you ever heard of Trans-Siberian Orchestra? Trans-Siberian Orchestra is a group that specializes in rock and rock opera, which is, well, a combination of rock and opera. In other words, they tell stories through music. It's amazing, and I love it. Not to mention, the stories are some of the best stories I've ever read.

In any case, they did an album called Beethoven's Last Night. This album is the story of Beethoven's last night on earth. However, it is fantasy. I love this. It's real historical characters, but with a fantasy story.

Books: Genre of the Month: Historical Fiction

Hello, Time-Travelers!

I used to read historical fiction a fair amount when I was younger, but I don't as much now.

Historical fiction is fiction, but it takes place in a time period in history. For example, a historical fiction book might take place during World War II.

Some historical fiction books I have read are:

The Dear America series. Some of them were horribly sad, but they all were diaries from a character in a different time period. This is one I read.

I read some of The Little House on the Prairie books as well.

I also read Number the Stars, by Lois Lowry.

I've read a quite a few more, but I'm trying to stick to the more famous ones/series, such as the wonderful children's series: Magic Tree House--some of which were based on historical time periods.

The last book I wanted to tell you about is one I can't remember the title of. I wish I could remember it. :(

Books: Favorites: The Invention of Hugo Cabret

Come, Friends. Come hear about one of the wonderful books of the world.

The Invention of Hugo Cabret, by Brian Selznick, is an amazing book.

The Invention of Hugo Cabret is about a boy who lives in a train station in Paris, in 1931. He runs the clocks in the train station, and has a journal full of interesting drawings. As we follow Hugo, we meet Isabelle, a girl who loves to read, and an old man who runs a toy booth. There is a slight hint of mystery to the book, but it is not an absolute mystery novel. The book is told through words and pictures; if you skip the pictures you miss part of the story.

What I love about the book is that it is told in words and pictures. I haven't read any other book told in both words and pictures. I have read books only in pictures, and of course, only in words, but never in both. The story was also amazing.
