Books: Favorites: My Dream Bed

Whoever said we weren't allowed to include picture books in a post about our favorite books?

Well, I certainly didn't. I'm glad you allow picture books, too. :)

My Dream Bed, by Lauren Child, starts out like this: "When you are tucked up in bed but you just can't sleep, try to imagine your perfect dream bed" (1).

We see a bed in a flower, a bed in a nest, a bed on an elephant, and many more.

This book is so amazing because on each page, you put the girl in her new dream bed. (A ribbon attached to the spine makes sure you don't lose her.) The book also includes many flaps and wheels to turn.

I have a wild imagination, and so this book was perfect for me when I was little. I still like to imagine everything. Have you read this book? I think it might help hyper children you're babysitting fall asleep. . .

Recipes: Strawberry-Rhubarb Pie

Hello, Pie-Lovers!


Here is a recipe for a simpler version of strawberry-rhubarb pie. We always used to have strawberry-rhubarb pie when I was young, and it is one of my favorites. Here is a recipe from http://allrecipes.com/recipe/12612/rhubarb-and-strawberry-pie/

Ingredients:
1 cup white sugar
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1 pound fresh rhubarb, chopped
2 pints fresh strawberries
1 recipe pastry for a 9 inch double crust pie
2 tablespoons butter
1 egg yolk
2 tablespoons white sugar

Directions:

1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
2. In a large bowl, mix flour and sugar. Add strawberries and chopped rhubarb. Toss with sugar and flour and let stand for 30 minutes.
3. Pour filling into pie crust. Dot top with butter, and cover with top crust. Seal edges of top and bottom crust with water.
4. Apply yolk to top of pie, using a pastry brush. Sprinkle with sugar. Cut small holes in top to let steam escape.
5. Bake at 400 degrees F (200 degrees C), for 35 to 40 minutes, or until bubbly and brown. Cool on rack.

Writing: Fairy Tales: Fairy tale Twists

Hello, Fantastical Creatures,

Today, we are talking about fairy tale "twists." At least, I like to call them twists. A fairy tale twist is where someone takes a classic fairy tale and changes a few things, but keeps the original story, to make it different. Examples of these are: Princess of the Midnight Ball by Jessica Day George, The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer, and many others. Princess of the Midnight Ball is a twist on "The Twelve Dancing Princesses." Cinder, the first in The Lunar Chronicles, is a twist on Cinderella. What fairy tale twists have you read?

On My Mind: New Blog Header!

Hello, Friends!

I just got a new header, new font, and new picture. This amazing formatting was done by my dad's cousin's husband. I am so grateful for it! The picture was modified from a picture I drew with a silver pen. The pen is all one line.

Which do you like better: the old header or the new one?
